ABOUT
Sonic Doll is the new generation of female fronted grunge and punk rock, with a modernised twist. The female-fronted Birmingham band consists of Lauren Woodfield (lead vocals/guitarist), Scarlett Duthie (rhythm guitar and backing vocals) and Julz Morris (Bass guitar/keys). Sonic Doll formed in 2022, and have played at many beloved Birmingham live venues such as The Sunflower Lounge, Subside Bar, The Victoria, and The Dark Horse.
Their music is a perfect fusion of head-banging guitar riffs, raw melodies, and satire, feminine lyrics. "Third Eye", the debut EP by the band was released in June 2022, featuring songs such as "Lemonade", and "Lesbian Moshpit" which have gained the band much attention in the local music scene. Altescape comments "the band have an immense presence and with ease filled and mesmerised the room. Desperate to start a well-deserved mosh, friends and fans surged the centre of the room, with a small group dancing, headbanging and moshing to every track. Completely enthralled in the sound of Sonic Doll, it seems only appropriate to highlight the doubtless potential and exciting future ahead of this band." - Daisy Taylor.
"The 5 track EP possesses everything anyone could want or need; from empowerment and revolution, to love and heartache...Sonic Doll approaches 'Third Eye' with an experimental vision, heavily utilising aspects of punk, whilst emerging with a wholly unique sound'. Sonic Doll received radio play on BBC Introducing WM, where track 'Third Eye' was broadcast by radio host Alex Noble. Shortly after, the band was placed on The Official Brum Radio A-List playlist, alongside Birmingham artists Fox Gluvv, Solar Eyes and R. John Webb for their track 'Lemonade'.
During the end of 2022, Sonic Doll had amassed a total of 7.1k streams on Spotify, were featured on Birmingham's Not So Rock Show, Corby Radio and were approached by Steel City Studios who recorded Bring Me The Horizon, Deaf Havana and Hot Milk. Sonic Doll's most recent headline show of 2023 was at The Sunflower Lounge in Birmingham. The show was reviewed by music blogger, Isabella Evans 'The entirety of their time on stage was a dynamic and captivating spectacle with every bit of audience interaction making you feel included and embraced and every song making you feel empowered. I am beyond excited to see what they will achieve in the future as a band with the potential and stage presence that they have'.
